Puducherry has banned the sale of cotton candy after it was found to contain toxic chemicals.
Cotton candy is a favorite snack of children at festivals, fairs, parks etc. In this case, Puducherry State Food Safety Department officials have found that the chemicals added to it for color can cause cancer. Officials inspected food quality in restaurants, bakeries and tea shops in Puducherry and Karaikal areas and bought and tested them on suspicion. Then they found that it contained a poisonous pigment called Rhodamine B.
While this has caused a lot of controversy, Puducherry Deputy Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has advised not to buy cotton candy mixed with chemicals that affect health. In it, poisonous substances have been seized from cotton candy sellers. People from North India have been selling cotton candy with chemicals like this. Action has been ordered against those concerned. Some traders said that they bought the goods from Tamil Nadu. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that they will take action in this regard.Following this, it has been reported that henceforth an order has been issued that the raw products of Panchumitai should be sold in Puducherry only with the approval of the Food Safety Department Officer. Food Safety Department Officer Ravichandran has said that the sale should be done only after the proper license is issued and until then the sale of Panchumita has been banned in Puducherry.
Meanwhile, officials of the Food Safety Department seized cotton candy sold at Marina Beach in Chennai. Officials of the Food Safety Department also said that the inspection has revealed that harmful pigments have been mixed in the cotton candy.
