The construction work started on November 18, 1929 and was completed in 1943. It took about 14 years to complete the construction of this palace. The palace was built by mixing both western technical techniques and Indian art.
Considered to be the largest luxury palace in the world, this palace was built at a cost of 11 million rupees. Maharaja Umaid Singh settled here in 1943 and lived only for 4 years. He was succeeded by Hanwant Singh. Later his son Gaj Singh is currently living in that palace. The palace has a total of 347 rooms. Ghaj Singh converted a part of it into a luxury hotel in 1971.
It is currently managed by Taj Hotels. The palace is spread over a total area of ​​26 acres, including a garden of about 15 acres. The palace has Durbar Hall, private dining halls, library, swimming pool, spa, 4 tennis courts.
