On January 24th, the Transport Commissioner has issued an order that all private buses going to southern districts should be operated from the newly opened Kalayankar Karunanidhi Centenary Bus Terminal in Chennai's Klambach.
The private bus companies had filed a case in the Madras High Court against this order. The case was decided by Judge R.N. Manjula was re-examined earlier today.Chief Advocate PS Raman, who appeared for the Tamil Nadu government at that time, said that it has been decided to allow passengers to pick up and drop at Surabaya, Porur and Thambaram, and to allow passengers to drop only at Perungalathur.
Senior advocate Vijay Narayan, appearing for the Omni bus owners, requested that all the Omni bus companies should be allowed to pick up passengers from Coimbatore as they have garages in Coimbatore.At that time, Additional Chief Advocate Ravindran, who appeared on behalf of the Rapid Transport Corporation, requested that wherever private omni buses are allowed to pick up passengers within the city, permission should also be granted to the Government Rapid Transport Corporation buses.
Accordingly, the judge noted that if passengers are allowed to pick up and drop passengers at all places in Chennai, the bus will be full before reaching Clambakkam and the purpose of Clambakkam bus station will be wasted. He ordered the Tamil Nadu government and postponed the hearing to February 9.
